In this edition, some noteworthy improvements on the previous version have been made so that understanding the data and working with it is easier. One upgrade features many of the indicators broken down and visualized by areas of knowledge. In this respect, and with an eye on making the data comparable to other national and international rankings, six large areas of knowledge have been included: art and humanities, life sciences, experimental sciences, architecture, engineering and computer science, medicine and pharmacology, and social sciences.

We would like to inform you that the Research Institute for Higher Education and Science (INAECU) has been created. All the researchers members belong to two universities from Madrid - Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. The main activity of the Institute is scientific and technical research.

The two main lines of research focuses on: assessment of scientific and technological policies, and management of higher education institutions.
